Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn and Marshal of the Polish Sejm Grzegorz Schetyna discussed the state and perspectives of Ukrainian-Polish relations, and activization of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and Poland.

During the meeting in Lviv, V. Lytvyn and G. Schetyna agreed on the necessity to hold regular meetings and common sittings of the inter-parliamentary committees on foreign affairs. According to the parliamentarians, it will strengthen the inter-parliamentary dialogue and support European integration of Ukraine.

V. Lytvyn congratulated his colleague on the end of the parliamentary elections and the victory of his political power.

Marshal of the Polish Sejm stressed that when Poland chaired the European Union, "each meeting with the representatives of the parliament and executive power was essential, especially considering the "Eastern issue."

The Parties also discussed preparation for the European football championship. According to V.Lytvyn, Ukraine had some problems with financial support of the organization, but these issues were solved, and all the works are being carried out within the established schedule. The draft budget for 2012 allocates nearly UAH 1 billion for these purposes.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada shared his impressions from the newly-constructed terminal of Lviv International Airport: "We are sure to complete all works in time, as the image of Ukraine is concerned here. Today I talked with the specialist who assured me that there are no delays in works, and construction will be completed in time, by the end of the year." According to the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament, he also observed the work of the customs services which have already installed the necessary equipment in the newly-build terminal.

Asked about Ukrainian-Polish relations, V. Lytvyn reminded of the recent interview of L.Wałęsa, "who mentioned that if he had been president during Poland´s accession to the European Union, he would not have led Poland there without Ukraine, but would have led both states to the European future." "Now," V. Lytvyn stated, "it is a political position, a political credo" of the Polish authorities.

According to him, "Ukraine, as well as other countries, is perfectly aware of its significance for Europe, and knows that historical connections should work not only for our states, but also for the whole European community."

V. Lytvyn emphasised that Ukrainian and Polish parliaments are using new diverse forms of cooperation. As an example, he mentioned meetings of the chairmen of the parliaments of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania in the European Parliament with the participation of the president of this authoritative European institution. "It is utterly important that not only Ukraine but also other states support our expectable accession to the EU," he declared. The Chairman of the Parliament highly appreciates the European choice. "For Ukraine it is a political choice that might require financial expenses, but we are conscious of our choice, and demonstrate it, considering our perspectives," V. Lytvyn said.
